Vet Verdict for Totoro

Dr P said that none of his crystals have become any bigger or smaller. So the prognosis of the crystals being oxalate calcium is true. However his right renal cavity has become bigger 5.4 from 3.9 (before 4.4) and it has partially blocked his urethra but she told me it is not serious enough to warrant surgery and we should only monitor him for now. Since he is drinking a lot more, we did a blood test and true enough his creatinine is 2.3 from 1.9. So she has taken him off his urinary diet and put him on k/d diet. She said as his renal failure stemmed from his stones then the urinary diet is not useful anymore.

I gave him the k/d canned food this evening which he turned his nose at. Megat ate it quite willingly. He ate a little of his dry k/d (which I had to buy at a*** Tampines, right after I got back from hospital at B.

On a good note, the people at the vet were all very pleased to see him and they came to see him at the ultra sound. Dr P said that if all her cats behaved well like Toro, she would be a happy vet :). I was glad they came to see him as Toro likes attention. he was very relaxed at the ultra sound so today everything was very easy for us.

We have to go for our next Ultra Sound in the first week of June as Dr P would be going back to France for the summer and our next blood test is in April.

  1. We hope that Toto-Chan will change his mind about the K/D food!

    Is Dr. P French then?

  2. Yes Dr P is French. She is the only one who can do the US there :) She also treated Megat when he first went to the practice but she left for a very long break and we went with Dr L from there.

  3. No one in my gang will even want to go near the k/d food. LOL!

But XX likes the Waltham's Renal dry food though. It's her regular food besides the normal wet food she receives on a daily basis.
